An important message from the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Torlakson:
Attorney General Xavier Becerra, Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg will join me and other top leaders and experts to discuss ways educators can help students and parents who are anxious and fearful about current immigration policies at a panel discussion on Friday, September 22, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. They will talk about how to create a welcoming environment for all students, regardless of immigration status, and how to help these vulnerable students thrive and succeed.
The panel, part of a “Beyond Safe Havens” event at CDE headquarters, will be moderated by Viviana Paez, an anchor at Univision 19, Sacramento.
Educators, parents, and members of the public are invited to watch the live stream of the panel discussion at https://cde-ca.videossc.com.
The discussion will build on work done by educators throughout the state to create Safe Haven school districts. For more information, please visit our Safe Havens Web page at https://www.cde.ca.gov/eo/in/safehavens.asp.
Sincerely,
Tom Torlakson
State Superintendent of Public Instruction
