Humans are a complex group, and understanding them is even more complex. The best way to understand how and why we act the way we do is through psychology. AP Psychology, taught by Mr.Pelletier, goes through many lessons to prepare students for the exam in May. Psychology is filled with many topics that are essential to know for acing the AP test – one of those topics is the brain. To help students easily remember where certain parts of the brain are located and their functions, Mr. Pelletier assigns students a project.

The Brain Project requires students to display where every part of the brain is located, and what each part is meant to do. For example, the frontal lobe is located towards the front of the brain, which is right behind the forehead, and it is responsible for creating plans and making judgments; it is also involved with talking and muscle movements. Students are able to demonstrate their knowledge about the brain in any way that they want. Some students may create a 3D model, others may write a little children’s book, or still others may choose to produce a video. There are also some very creative and talented students who decide to write a song which they present in front of the class! Who knew a song about the brain could be so catchy?

These projects have been proven effective for many students, as evidenced by so many getting a 3 or above on the AP Psychology exam. The brain is a very important topic that shows up a lot on the test, so having a project on it is definitely necessary. The brain has a lot of parts, so trying to remember where they are and what they do can be very overwhelming. However, these brain projects ease some of that stress. Projects can be a lot of work, but they are usually worth it in the long-run.
