Class of 2020 Graduation Requirements Change

The Graduation Committee researched several different options to support our seniors in a time when credit recovery is not accessible to all students equally. After reviewing all options and considering the guidance from the CDE, we have chosen to implement temporarily a revised graduation plan known as the California Graduation plan for the Class of 2020 and current grade 13 students. This plan meets the minimum graduation requirements established by the State of California.

California Grad Plan- 26 credits
6 credits English
6 credits Social Science
4 credits Math (must meet Algebra requirement)
4 credits Science
4 credits PE
2 credits VAPA* or
2 credits CTE* or
2 credits World Language*
Community Service not required

*Students must choose 2 credits of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA),

Career Technical Education (CTE), or World Languages in the CA Grad Plan.

This plan will automatically apply to the Class of 2020 students. Students enrolled in comprehensive school sites must stay enrolled through June 5, 2020, in order to qualify for this revised graduation plan. The plan will not negatively impact students who are already accepted to colleges and universities in the fall semester (2020). Transcripts will still demonstrate the completion of the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) A-G entrance requirements. Students still need to satisfy the UC/CSU A-G requirements for college entrance. Students will not be allowed to drop any of the courses within their current schedule.

Students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) would need to meet the requirements established by their IEP team for graduation or to attain their Certificate of Attendance.

Students enrolled in the Learning Center, Palomar, and Independent Studies are also expected to meet the California Graduation Requirements and will be allowed to adjust their schedules accordingly. Counselors will review all senior transcripts and progress towards meeting  the California Graduation Plan.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your school counselor or administrator.

Classwork Packets for Students without Access to Technology

Sweetwater students and families,
If you do not have a laptop or wifi service from your home to access Distance Learning, or are enrolled in a credit recovery class, we are asking that you come and pick up hard copy packets for each of your classes next week. The packets that you pick up will be 4 weeks worth of work and instructions on how to return the information to your teacher will be printed on the front cover. Due to COVID-19 and regulations on groups gathering, please follow the schedule by date, time and grade level. We encourage you to come in a car instead of the walk up option as it keep a natural distance between people. In addition, you must wear a face mask (home made is ok) to come and pick up materials at the school next week.
Thank you,
SUHI Administration
Gracias,
Administración de SUHI
